"1976 Mercury 115 hp Inline 6

"1976 Mercury 115 hp Inline 6 cylinder - Runs as it should out of the water with muffs on. In the water once you shift into gear it dies but will idle all day long and will move forward if you shift into gear without adding any throttle. Replaced: Ignition Module (now an electronic CDI unit), starter, batteries, electrical harness, rebuilt the fuel pump, new gas tank, hoses, water pump, and plugs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. }"

All motors run " good &#34

All motors run " good " when there is no load on them. What are the compression test results and do you have spark at each cylinder that will jump a gap of 7/16". You may have to open up the low speed jets 1/8 th turn at a time to get it to accelerate properly.Outboards are hard working machines ( racing conditions at full throttle ) and often have been abused over a 40 year span. Testing and trouble shooting is the way to go.

"Listen to ikia, once you have done his test and all is good remove and clean all carbs. If you run with a bad carb or clogged high speed jet that cyl or cyl's doesn't recieve oil. It will toast that engine quickly"

"Will do, I'll get a compression gauge and check out the cylinders then check to 7/16" spark gap. I'll let everyone know what I find.
Thanks for the help and info."

"Got a compression gauge and the cylinders are as follows: 1- 125, 2-130, 3-60, 4-0, 5-128, 6-125. Looks like cylinders 3&4 are no good. That is my problem for sure. Anyone had a good Evinrude for sale...looks like this one is going to the junk yard.
Thanks to all who offered help."
