" I have a hard starting motor that idles rough and has cylinders cut out intermitenly at higher rpms I found a loose purple wire on my ignition switch but have not had the chance to test it yet.Could this possibly be the problem,and what is that purple wire for? Thanks in advance. John "
 
If that wire is loose at your

If that wire is loose at your switch it hooks to your accessory side of the switch. Then it goes back to the terminal block and hooks to position number 3 it goes from there to your thermo switch assy I have the colored digram if you want it email me and I'll copy off and send it. Do a compression test.Those motors were famous for broken piston rings.The motor MUST turn over rapidly in order for the magneto ignition system to work.
