1975 mercury 50hp switch box issues

I have a 1975 mercury 50 I went to take off the nuts for the switch box and repair a wire well the stud fell apart I was wondering if I could wire up a new style switch box instead of replace it with the original because it is a fraction of the price the one on the original is 5 stud and the new style has several different studs if I can do it please include what wires I would have to hook up for it to work thanks

You can buy an after market switch box for your 50hp. No need to buy original. Stick with the original style but after market . Less head aches
