I have two 1975 Johnson 2 HP outboards, neither of which will start. I checked the carbs and they seem OK. The gas is new. Neither has run in a couple of years. Where do I start? I was thinking of checking the points, choke, needle valves first. Am i going about it the correct way?
Thanks,

Remove the spark plug and put a small amount of fuel into the cylinder... replace the s/plug.

If the engine fires on that small deposit of fuel, you're overlooking something within the carburetor.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try and let you know how I make out.

Took your suggestion and it worked. One engine fired right up. Adjusted the needle valves, and she's running fine. The other didn't even pop. Took the head off and found that she was in pretty bad shape. Visible scorching, etc. Took it all apart and will use her for parts. I figure tht one out of two 75's running good ain't that bad.
Thanks again,
