1975 johnson 25hp short shaft,oil from weap hole

there is black oil coming from a small weap hole on the right side of the lower unit,the hole is at about the same location as the lower unit oil fill hole,is this exhaust oil or what,thanks for any input

The most likely common source of that black oil is the unburnt fuel mixture running down the inside of the long black soot covered exhaust housing..... unless you have some pitch black gearlube within that gearcase.

ok thanks, the lower unit oil is changed every year and it should be gold color or close to it,thanks
