"i have a 1975 85 hp evinrude that runs and starts great now. I just have two problems. When i put it in gear, unless i do it real fast it will kill it. Sometimes it will kill it if i do it fast. Does this sound like my boat is idled too low? Also i put a ignition switch in it last week and now it seems like i have to move the throttle futher to achieve WOT. I believe i got it back correctly and it all works smootly. Is it possible to have something out of place and it still funtion properly but affect throttle movement. Could my throttle and going dead when shifting be related? NOTE: I was having the shifting problem(going dead) before i relplaced switch. Thanks for any input."

"your 2 issues,are unrelated,.

"your 2 issues, are unrelated,..unless....your throttle is hitting something,..i would go back in and ck if it seems that way...if u have a tach, how fast is it idling?..ck your cable at eng, disc fr eng, spin prop, shift into gear and observe throttle cable travel..if ok,re-inst and observe, eng linkages, timer base movement full to stop?...carbs wide open?"

"went back in to remote. every thing looks good. Had wife to operate controls with me at back and i noticed that the "lever" going to the timer base is not moving much if any at all. I noticed it has a rubber stop under the flywheel. is it supposed to move this far. At most it moves maybe a quater of an inch. The main lever seems to be somewhat loose. Can this be adjusted out or does these normally wear and need replaced. It acts like it is trying to move it,but moves very little. My carbs seem to be opening all the way.
Thanks"

"I messed with it a little more. WHen you have the controls in the wide open setting after it tries to move the timing advance you can move it all the way to the rubber stop but it takes quite a nit of pressure. Should it move freely? Maybe disassemble, clean, and lubricate. Is this normal?"

Should you be able to move the main lever that moves the smaller lever that advances the timing while the throttle is in the wide open position. Trying to figure out if I should disassemble and lube or could it be adjusted.

OK. I just disconnected the small round lever that connects the big lever to the timer base. It is what is stiff to move. Should it be easy to move or should it have alot of resistance.
