1975 70hp evinrude ran great now nothing

i just purchased my first boat a cpl weeks ago. On the test run the motor started and ran great. I took my wife out for a ride yesterday and we ran into a sandbar at no wake speed. The motor still ran great for 15 minutes and then bam it just died! It turns over but won't fire. Is it possible that the shear pin broke? Are boat motors similar to lawnmowers in regard to broken shear pins and timing?
 
No " designed to shear " pin on the motor ----------------But if the flywheel nut was not properly torqued then it may have sheared the flywheel key.---That puts ignition out of time.

Lots of ideas in Disneyland---------------, but you have to do your trouble shooting.------------Do you have spark ??--------Is there fuel in the carburetors ??-------Did you replace waterpump impeller after you bought it ??-------Is the flywheel key OK and is the nut now torqued ??

as i stated in my first post this is my first boat, but i was around them alot as a kid (43) now. Ive read a ton of posts but not quite have learned all of the terminology yet. I did not change the water pump but did check it with muffs before taking it out. Yes im getting fuel and have a good prime. Motor is turning over fine but no fire. Something killed the motor while running and not letting it fire now? My question is where is a good starting point on trouble shooting the fire?
 
Go to an automotive store and get a $10 adjustable spark checker. Compression tester too if less than $20. I found mine on ebay for $15. You must check the spark as raceone said, properly.
Then go online, even this site, and get the factory manual.
