"Hi I have a 1975 25 hp Johnson that won't start. When I turn the key, the starter engages but wont turn the motor over. It will not pull start either. I just bought this boat and it worked fine the first 2 times I had it out. I have already replaced the battery. I am new at this but wanted to try to at least make an attempt at fixing it before bringing it in somewhere. Thanks"
 
look for a big nylon-plastic p

look for a big nylon-plastic pawl on the starbord side of the motor near the rear- watch while you shift F-N-R how that pawl grabs and locks the flywheel from turning in gear...then check how there's a nut that can be used to adjust it so it gets out of the way in neutral

That wasn't the problem.

That wasn't the problem. I checked it out and the nylon pawl wasn't stopping it from turning over.
 
Is it possible that the motor

Is it possible that the motor seized from lack of lubrication??? Are you mixing gas and oil at a 50 to 1 ratio?? Does the flywheel move when turned by hand??? Pull the plugs and check for any rust. A leaking head gasket can let in enough water to rust the cylinders. Did the motor run this season or did it stop running after a period of storage???
