"I recently bought a 1975 115 hp Johnson Outboard Motor and boat. The engine started and ran perfectly and was on the lake for about 30 minutes before the alarm horn sounded. I replaced the water pump myself and now, after 15 minutes of running, the warning horn sounded again. Is there anything else that the warning horn sounds for? If not, what could make the water pump go bad that fast?"

"I'll look into that. I started it up again tonight, hooked up to a garden hose. It is spitting absolutley no water at all. I checked the lines as much as I can, both from the outside, and after I dropped the lower unit again. The lines in both places appear clean as far as I can tell. Any suggestions?"

"Check the intake screen, the fit of the water tubes to the pump housing (there should be some plastic guide sleeves to aid in mating during assembly) and the overall fit and condition of the water pump housing. there may be a replaceable sleeve on the O.D. of the pump housing. The manual shows the theromstat to be below the power head in the back of the engine. Looks like you have to remove the exhaust housing to access.

I have the same engine and have pulled the lower unit several times. Shallow water operation can put muck in the water system."

"Thanks guys, On my next days off Ill def be looking into the thermostat. When I replaced the the water pump I replaced the whole thing. I noticed that the water tubes to the pump took a little adjusting to fit the pump, Im fairly certain that both of them slid in. But how can you be 100% sure? I really took my time trying to get them right. Thanks everyone, before this posting I had never even thought of the thermostat."

"Ihave a 1990 90 HP evinrude. Runs great for about 1/2 hour or so then the horn sounds and it only runs on about 1/2 speed. water is coming out of the outtake at all times, but not very hot. Is this a thermostat problem or a water pump problem."
