1974 OMC 165 carb or fuel pump problem

I have a houseboat powered by

I have a houseboat powered by a 1974 OMC I/O 165. I can only get the engine to run at high rpm's. Once it is started it runs for a short time and then dies. I tried pumping the throttle but it still dies. I'm not sure if I have a carb or fuel pump problem. I disconnected the fuel line and turned the engine over and it does pump fuel. I would appreciate and info. Thanks

"sounds like your idle circuit is clogged,dirty carb,etc....u may want to post over on the OMC board,...while many of us wk on those,...this is the outboard area,and u may find more help over there,w/the lg number of sterndrive guys...but,i'd clean/rebuild that carb."
