1974 mercury 650 timing

Hello all I got hold of a 74 mercury 650 that had been took apart. I have got everything back together. With new parts timing belt included. Think is the flywheel was unbolted from the hub. And half the timing sticker is gone. From the belt alignment mark going right. There’s 2 marks close together then little farther right another mark. Well there punch marks. Which one is tdc. And with #1 piston at tdc do I line the flywheel with distributor pulls arrow like the older models or with the plastic timing tool that snaps on the side. I have been looking all week trying to find something on this. Find plenty on timing flywheel with distributor but not timing flywheel with the hub nothing on the 1974 models. I’m hoping someone can help me with this. Thanks

I suggest you accurately locate TDC on the motor, then make your own timing marks for it. You'll need a piston stop (made from an old plug threaded for a bolt) to set all this up.

Is the belt alignment mark. Also tdc? I have learned 74 and up is the only ones having a belt alignment mark. Rest of the sticker is worn off. So I have blm . .. . Which of those dots tdc. Some body has got to know

Have you removed the wee plate on top of the distributor ?----Timing arrow is under there.---5/16" wrench required.
