I was given a 1974 Evinrude 70

I was given a 1974 Evinrude 70 hp outboard and in checking it out found that there is no oil in the lower unit.It has been setting since 2002. It was running fine when it was stored. I have not taken it apart . How hard is it to rebuild this unit? What problems could i run into? is there special tools needed? Thanks

"i would guess,.that the seals

"i would guess,.that the seals dried out,and it leaked the oil out ,over time,..any wtr in it?,..if not,i would reseal it,fill it up and go...since sitting that long there r a cpl more items, that need mentioning,...first,ck compression and spark,..all good,clean/rebuild carbs,...carbs,jets etc, must be CLEAN,..tiny holes etc....,tune up,decarb it,inst new wtr pump..then,u should be good to go.now, many have ruined engines ,trying to short cut,and when test running, thinking that 'it will clr itself out in a minute'...if u get no fuel to a cyl..u r getting no oil....also......ruining,the engine.."

"When i pulled the lower plug

"When i pulled the lower plug on the lower unit a small amownt of water came out, it had been sitting out side for a couple of years."

I went out and ran a wire tie

I went out and ran a wire tie up the lower drain hole and oil started slowly draining out it was very thick. There was a small amount of clear water also not a lot but some mabe 5%.The volume of oil was about a pint.I checked the magnet on the drain plug there was no metal it was clean.
