"Over the last year Engine has become hard to start for first start of the day - but runs great once started and restarts just bumping the key. I'm thinking the engine is flooding? Disconnecting fuel line and cranking will get it to start. Prior to hard-to-start condition, only had to choke it and bump key for first start of day and the rest of the day. Seems like this condition occurs when on the ramp backed into water but not setting on flat ground.

New rebuild kit in fuel pump and 3/8th line with quikconnect fitting. I've cleaned carbs; wondering if an improperly set float will cause it to flood? I reinstalled the floats and they look level holding the carb upside down. Old engine looking for Oldtimer answer. Thanks"

"Thanks David, I cleaned the carbs and after cleaning the hard to start/flooding condition developed.

Could you comment on whether an improperly set float could cause flooding"

Did you install new carb kits?

Did you install new carb kits? Needle and seats? Those carbs are on the elderly side and a tear down to clean should attomatically include that new kits be installed as well. And yes improperly adjusted floats can cause flooding.
