" I have a 25 horse Johnson outboard and I am seeing a drip of gear oil on the garage floor. After looking for where the leak is coming from, I found it coming from a small hole on the right side just above the top filler hole. Is this normal or do I have a bigger problem? "
 
Larry... Check the gear lube.

Larry... Check the gear lube. That "leak" you see may simply be excess unburnt fuel/oil mix dripping down the inner exhaust housing and out the existing drain holes.

I had this idea but was not sure. I did notice when I took the boat home for the first time, I fired up the motor and it smoked alot so it seemed to me that the guy that had it before me mixed the oil/gas ratio a little to thick with oil.
