1973 starcraft trim pump question

Hi everyone I have a 1973 star craft mercruiser I/o board 120 hp GM inline4 motor added hydraulic fluid to trim pump reservoir, with vent screw open and now it leaks, when trying to raise the trim any suggestion

you overfilled it? most times you add when the drive is fully trimmed in

HMMMM fully trimmed UP? I thought you trimmed it down so that the oil was in the reservoir. If trimmed up, oil will be displaced by pistons/rams and fill reservoir and leak out. I always fill mine at slightly over all the way down, leave the top open, and let it down. Also could have an air bubble.
