" Would a sunken float on the

" Would a sunken float on the bottom carb of this engine cause it to not idle? It will run at about 1/4 throttle and up but wont idle. It dies when put at idle setting. I am replacing the floats but am wondering, if the excess gas is coming out of the top of the carb, why wont the engine idle? Is some gas being forced into the engine?
You can tell I'm new to boats. Thanks for any help.

" ALWAYS do a compression test when trouble shooting. If gas is leaking it is caused by sticky float valve not a defective float. Many people blame the carburetor when they have motor problems , most of the time it is something else. "

" Thanks for your reply, I probably should have mentioned that I did see gas coming out of the vent hole on the back of the bottom carb and had recently changed both needles and seats. I found the bottom float full of gas, so I know it wasnt shutting the needle. I am not certain if this could be causing my motor to not be able to idle. I'll see what happens with new floats. Thanks again. "
