1973 Johnson 25 Hp Electrict Start - Won't Start

I just cleaned up this old motor that was stored for a few years in my barn. I put new points, plugs, condensers in it and a new water pump. It cranks really well but will not fire. It seems to be getting gas. I have a Seloc Manual for 71-89 John/Evin for 2 stroke engines up to 60 Hp, and it sounds like a coil problem. The manual says you have to have special tools to check the coils. This motor has (3) coils, one inside the magneto with the points, etc, and two on the outside of the powerhead each going to the spark plugs. Is there anyway to test the coils without special equipment/tools ??

Does someone have a better idea about why this motor will not fire ??

I just can't justify spending the $90.00 per hour shop fees to take it to a dealer. Thanks - MoRam - Kearney, MO

Those ignition systems are quite reliable----------------You say it " cranks really well but will not fire "-------------------Does that mean you have no spark or it will not start for you ??????---------------------Test for spark using something with a large gap say 1/4" ( old sparkplug with electrode broken off ) or whatever you can rig up.----------------------------If the motor has sat for a number of years then the carburetor could be plugged up.--------------What happens when you squirt fuel into the carburetor throat ????

Thanks racerone. The starter works fine and turns the flywheel easily. I held one spark plug boot about 1/2 inch from the end of the plug with pliers while cranking, and I could detect no spark. I removed a spark plug and I could smell gas on it. I also squirted some starting fluid into the carburetor throat and still did not get it to fire.
