1973 Johnson 2 hp won't keep running

Hi I have a 1973 Johnson 2 hp, single cylinder that I use on a small zodiak. Compression is good, nice blue spark, rebuilt the carb and swapped in another float. Hard to start, and will only run on the high speed circuit and then will stall after a few minutes. Tried the baseline settings on the carb and many different adjustments. Also does this model have a water pump tell tale pee'r as there does not appear to a provision for one? Thanks

Check flow from tank and tank vent. But I really don't think that is the problem. Maybe a crankcase compression problem. Or stuck rings. anyhow, there is no stream on those motors, only a mist blowing out the exhaust relief holes, which sometimes is hard to detect.

Flow from tank through the fuel line was checked and is good. I will do a leak down test on it. If I pressurize the motor to 10 psi, how long should it take to bleed off to 0 psi on a healthy motor? I will also do a compression test, what should the peak compression be on this type of engine? Thanks for your help and prompt response.
