1973 Johnson 115 hp problems (no spark)

I have a 1973 Johnson 115 (115ESL73M) that stopped sparking on me the other day. I got it started a week ago, but the starter blew on me. After switching out with a new starter for a 78 johsnon 115 I realized that I was no longer getting spark. I have been reading other common posts on here and believe that it is either the power pack or the stator. I saw some ways to test the power pack, but am a little confused on what to do. I have tested all four plugs and none are working, and new starter is spinning plenty fast. My main two questions would be wether to get a new power pack? Also if the stator is bad, could I use the stator off of my 78 (blown cylinder, now used for spare parts).
Thanks again for your time,
Eric

Hi friend although I see nobody has replyed to your post I'm wondering if you sorted your no spark problem?I have the same engine, year, model but no spark it's turning fine and free but not even a small spark I even put my finger in the socket to see if there was any voltage.Gutted I didn't feel the shock.ha. I don't no if I have a stator or power pack problem but also if you could be so kind as to tell me how you have your wiring up front. I only recently bought it,the wires I have are- a big red one which if I touch to a cream one the starter engages, I have 2 blacks? 1 grey? 1 brown,2 purple ( I think kill the engine). Please help. Many many thanks. Dave. [email protected]
