"I have a 1973 evinrude 135 with tilt and trim. Trims up and down fine out of the water but when I'm cruising on the lake it will not trim up all the way. It will move several inches then stop. Can anyone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this? Where would I check the fluid on this unit, and what type of fluid would I use if low. Its my understanding engine should be tilted all the way up when checking fluid.. Is this right?? Thank you for all your help!!

"All of the OMC PTT units regardless of their design have 15° of trim and then transfer to the tilt mode.

The several inches you mention are no doubt the 15°. While underway, the pressure exerted by the propeller makes it impossible for the engine to tilt any further.

Yes, the engine must be tilted up to its extreme in order to fill the PTT reservoir properly."
