1973 Evinrude 135 Gasket Question

I've been told that on a motor this old, one should use a thicker than original adapter to power head gasket. Is there anything to this?

All I can say is buy the orginial from the OEM. I have heard some of the off brands are thinner. Go to your BRP Dealer.
