Hi guys

Just picked up this boat.
It has a 85esl73m motor on it with a presolite trim system on it.

Does any one know where I can source parts for it?

The manual release valve came out under pressure & has now gone missing.

Before that it would slowly go up & the fall back down ad if there is air in the system or oil going past the ram seals.
Any thoughts?

The shops here tell me to get rid of & fit a new motor for the cost of $12k. (I don't think so)

Other than that can you retrofit a different model or buy an aftermarket system to suit?

I am in Sydney, Australia. But I don't mind buying from os if need be.

Thanks in advance

Wow Australia. My heart and prayers goes out to your county for those floods.......

You really do not have a trim system but the older motors were equipped with tilt only. If you can not use the motor in a single position and it requires a trim system then I would suggest a trim jack plate unit. This is a good unit (not many choices) made by the most popular company http://www.marineengine.com/products/accessory.php?in=1471302 It will do tilt and trim.

Wrong---------- there was a trim / tilt offered in 73.----------Just have to look in the right place for used spares.

Sorry mate----------I should have included the part # for the kit --------------#172670 power trim and tilt kit for 65-135 HP 1973.---------Direct from the 73 accesories catologue ( paper version ) in front of me on the desk.

I don't know if this is the manual release valve you're looking for BUT it is for the older PTT units that have two external rams. This is a new valve, last one I have, part number 172767, listed as being unavailable since 1983. Private message sent with particulars.

The slow movement problem is usually due to a faulty stand up valve located in the bottom of the starboard ram tube, a two piece valve consisting of a stem portion screwed into the bottom of that starboard ram, and a receiving portion for that stem locked with a lockring into the bottom of the starboard plunger. This would be part number 173206 which still appears to be available BUT at a terrible price of about $150.00 USD as of July 2010. Sorry, I don't have that item.

Perhaps your understanding of trim and tilt is wrong !!-----------You may just have tilt only !!-----------------I think people should be forced to post pictures of what they have so that we can compare apples to apples.

Tilt/trim for that engine has always been a dual external cylinder setup. A plain single cylinder tilt setup would however be located under the engine between the transom brackets. There should be a few of those units in various shops that could be used for parts.
