I have run this engine for 3 seasons without any real issues.
This spring I finally got a tach on.
I have yet to get it on the water this season. Tach is set to 6P.
Today on the muffs in the driveway the lowest rpm I was able to get was 1800.
Is this normal?
I thought 700-1000 was normal idle.
I am guessing since it isnt' in the water with no back pressure, the rpms are higher?
Thanks all.
Jim

If it is reading correctly 1800 is too high. Out of the water on muffs and in neutral it should be reading a lot closer to 1000 RPMs. Double check the setting and make sure it is set exactly on 6P. Close don't count.

how does the engine sound?hell of a difference in sound from 800 to 1800.....do you have a tach problem or is the
engine turning too high?

A simple adjustment to the engine side cable, and now I am all set.
It will idle from 500-2000. It does stall around the 500 mark.
I now believe the tach is accurate.
Thanks all!
