"OK, now that the beast is tested, the questions are coming.

1) The exhaust manifold cover gasket leaked a little at the top of the engine. We didn't worry about it, but now should I consider replacing the gasket? How difficult is it to do? It looks like it has been done before, as there seems to be holes that were opened into the rear exhaust cover (then filled) to access the lower bolts. A couple of them are rusted.

2) OMC Manual shows a "*Thrust Washer" installed first when installing the prop assembly. (Seloc manual does not show the part.) I do not seem to have one unless, as suggested by my Evinrude dealer, it is stuck on the prop already. Is this part on all engines of this type? Testing it I put on the Thrust Bushing Assy, Prop, Spacer, Nut, Cotter Pin. I don't plan on running again until I know for sure.
Thanks"

The washer that is missing would be the first thing installed. I do have the large thrush bushing assy. before the prop. The OMC manual showed a second smaller washer before that big one.
Thanks

"The 1973 65hp has a beveled taper that the thrust washer seats upon. The thrust washer has a corresponding taper.

The earlier model propshaft does not have that taper but rather has a right angle drop in diameter that requires the smaller washer installed before a different design thrust washer that has no taper.

Bottom line.... You have the wrong manual.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay store at:
