I have a 40 hp Evinrude Norseman I believe a 1973 . Just bought it . Not real familiar with boating . Didnt try it out first and I believe the guy was truthful . Got it out on the water and it seemed to run fine . Wasnt a dock to tie to . people told me cound dock on the sand bar and would be fine . No electric lift for the motor and only me and my 6 year old grandson . Got in the dirt . Next day got on the water and it ran ok until I accelerated a little . It was like a auto transmission on a car slipping . Back off and it would run . Got about a mile away and stopped . Then it was like it didnt go into gear . put it in reverse and it would go a little. Slowly got back to the ramp and loaded it manually. Any suggestions ? Will probably fix it myself if I can figure it out
