"New guy to the forum, so plea

"New guy to the forum, so please be patient. I bought a 73 Mercury 20hp 2 years ago in pieces. I got the engine together and had it running OK. It sometimes had a miss when running. Last year, I could not get the motor running at all. I'm determined to get it running this year. I have the flywheel off the motor, and now don't know how to get it aligned back on the shaft properly. That's my first problem. I know the running problem is in the timing or ignition.

First, What kind of ignition system was on this motor? Phasemaker, thunderbolt, other?
2nd, What should be my plan of attack to get the timing correct? Thanks."

Anybody have some ideas for me

Anybody have some ideas for me? I have good compression at 110 psi in both cylinders. I also have spark for both cylinders. How do I go about getting the timing correct?

The timing does not change on

The timing does not change on these motors. If you took the flywheel apart at the hub it was a mistake.Use the timing marks on the flywheel and the position of the piston at TOP DEAD CENTRE to reassemble it.When you get it running use a timing light to check the operation of the ignition to isolate the problem.
