I'M taking my head off to inspect piston.Anyone have a diagram for torque and retighting head bolts?.My torque wrench only shows in.lbs. up to 800 is there a conversion from in lbs. to foot lbs. From what i have read head bolts only need 18 to 20 foot lbs.Idon't know for sure but isn't 800 in lbs within 18-20 foot lb range?

I have posted a diagram below for the torque sequence for OMC V4 heads. Your particular head may have a very slightly different bolt pattern, but basically you just work outward from the middle in a spiral pattern.

As to your second question about torque (and you will say "oh ya" right after I post it) - there are 12 inches in a foot - so with "pounds" it's no different -

12 inch pounds = 1 foot pound (so 216 - 240 inch pounds = 18 - 20 foot pounds).

I have 17-20 foot pounds recommended for the sparkplugs.

If you think the threads in the head might be getting shot now is the time to look at getting helicoils installed - before it really becomes a problem.

Many machine shops will do them relatively cheap...
