1972 Johnson 65 HP Hydro Electric Water Pump question

Looking for some help...brand new to the forum, I have a 1972 Johnson 65 HP Hydro Electric that I just replaced the water pump on.....my question is.....there is a round plastic (yellowish in color) sleeve that sits in what I believe is the output hole of the top of the water pump. It seems rest (slightly fitted) in the recess on the top of the pump and then simply slide over the metal tube up inside the upper unit of the engine assembly, is there supposed to be a gasket/seal/O Ring of any type that slides over any portion of the upper tube and/or the water pump?

The reason I ask is that water is coming out of the unsealed portion where the lower unit joins with the engine and not out the top two ports under the engine cover. I have read many posts, watched many You Tube videos and looked at the exploded view of the manual but have not found an answer to my question?

Some of the You Tube videos show a similar water pump that has a screwed down sleeve, however checking my engine there seems to be no area in which to screw anything down to, assuming the You Tube is of a similar but different engine.

Any help is much appreciated.

The plastic tube is a guide to help you hit the hole in the water pump with the water tube as you assemble it. Once assembled, it does absolutely nothing. As for the leak between the gearcase and exhaust housing---normal. But you could have used some suitable sealer if you had wanted to, but not necessary. Any water leaking out there has gone through the system and done it's job and is destined to go out the underwater outlet.
 
Those tubes only serve to guide the water tube into the pump !-----------Water leaking out of the motor at the lower unit joint is normal
