Hi. Looking to either rebuild or replace my '72 evinrude 4HP Yachtwin, fuel pump. Can someone help me with what options I have in terms of the kits that are available for rebuilding ( what year or model # kits will work ) or what year or model # fuel pumps should I be looking for ?

thx...

I have not had much success with rebuilding fuel pumps. They work for a while then when your out on the water they leak so from now on I will always buy new. Either way you will need to find the model number. Marineengine.com has 4 different 1972 4 hp engines listed.

Keep in mind that the longer your fuel supply line, the more it affects the effective pulses of the fuel pump.......especially if it is a high lift or a really soft, flexible hose. These tiny pumps are a bit touchy to overhaul and sometimes the little check valves will fail, or the seat can get damaged in the plastic housings. Probably I'd recommend you get a new pump complete and consider what I said about the supply line. Do not overtighten the pump to the motor, you must match the torque of the other 2 screws. No ethanol, it will damage the pump diaphragms in time, especially off season.

These pumps are so easy to repair and likely just need a new diaphragm.----No need to spend a $100 when $5 does the trick.

Thx for the input, guys. This little motor just keeps on going. It sits in storage of a small day sailor - typically unused for most the season ( unless the wind dies ).

What I'd like to do is buy a used pump and rebuild that one first. So, I was wondering what years the same pump was used.

Kim - the ebay link shows kits for different years than 1972 - will they still work for my pump ? Also, the pix idea has saved me on so many rebuilds of things that I don't know how I ever rebuilt things without an iPhone or digital camera ?! I also printed out those directions !

All great advice guys !
