1972 Evinrude 25HP not starting

Hey guys. I bought a 1972 25HP Evinrude serial# 25252 that is backfiring and smoking white smoke after it backfires... I cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel lines and spark plugs. Any ideas?

Do a compression test. Then check your spark on a spark tester set at 1/4 " open air gap. Then check your flywheel key.

Any idea of the psi for this year model?

90 to 100 psi. JMO.......
