I just purchased this motor.

I just purchased this motor. It has been used very little in it's life. My question is on the lower gear case in front and behind the "oil check" hole there are 2 small holes. I have a small amount of oil/lube leaking from the back one. What are these holes and what do I do to fix this leak. Thanks

"Those are water drain holes, absolutely necessary with engines that are used and stored in various locations of the world that endure freezing temperatures.

I suspect that the substance you see dripping ot those holes are simply the fuel/oil mixture that is draining down thru the long exhaust housing between the powerhead and lower unit.

To ease you mind..... or completely devasatate your inner being, loosen the large slotted screw at the lower portion of the gearcase so that youcan compare the gearcase lube with what you see draining out of that small hole.

NOTE..... DO NOT remove the philips screw in that lower unit skeg. That is a long shoulder bolt type screw that is actually a piviot point for the inner shift lever."

Thanks so much....That makes alot of sense and does ease my mind. It's a sweet motor and I'd hate to have problems with it already. It is darker than the gear lube. Thanks again
