1972 Evinrude 125 HP stator and rectifier question

My motor is running fine for 30 minutes then misses badly. Only can get 2200 RPM's. Next day same problem, runs good for 30 minutes then misses badly.

Did some more trouble shooting and can someone please verify this with me?

Did an ohm's test on the rectifier and everything checked out except the yellow to yellow/gray wire. I had no readings on either side. My repair manual says I should have one, only one way but I have none. I think it is bad.

Stator: Unhooked wires from terminal and did ohm check yellow to ground and I got nothing. The manual says I should get infinite. Manual says I have a short. Next test on stator connecting both wires for ohm reading I got infinite. Manual says I should get .75.

Question: Are both these parts bad? Could this be the source of my miss fire when the engine runs for 30 minutes? Upon inspection under the flywheel I did notice a hairline crack in the stator. Once the stator gets hot could it be leaking electrical through this crack? My battery seems to charge and I have no problem with the battery.

I just ordered a pulse pack thinking this is the problem but upon second check I am now thinking it is the rectifier and stator.

Thanks for any input..

The stator and rectifier on your engine have to do with charging the battery.------Later models 73 and up the stator was also part of the system to make spark.-----Have you checked which rotor you have ???---------Have you checked the sensor ???-------have you checked sensor air gap ???-----Have you checked the anti-reversing spring ???---------Have you cleaned the distributor cap internally ???

Thanks racerone for the quick response.

I guess the stator and the rectifier won't effect how the engine runs. I have read so many forums and bulletins trying to fix this problem. I read somewhere that a bad rectifier can make the engine miss at high RPM's, but I guess with my 1972 it doesn't matter. I did look at the ohm readings a seond time. The stator is reading infinite and the cross wire reading is .3 on two different meters. The manual states .7 + or - .2. So it is a little low. The rectifier is short between the yellow and yellow gray, but checks out on each wire to ground.

The thing that is puzzling it the motor runs great everytime I take it out for 30 minutes then misses badly. It seems to me that there is a short of some kind in the ignition when heat is involved.

I guess I will pop off the flywheel and check everything again. If it checks out I will install my new pulse pack and hope for the best.
