Can anyone tell me the purpose of the safety switch between the block and the starter solenoid, part number 0382548? My manual shows it but does not say anything about its purpose. It breaks continuity between ground and the solenoid, mine ohms out bad. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks racerone, are you thinking about the switch mounted at the controls? the one I'm referencing is mounted on the engine block.

Why bypass a safety feature? At least give a try to clean it.

Since that is electric shift, you advance the idle for starting with the throttle lever & not a warm up lever. So it becomes possible to have full throttle at start up. (Evinrude push button control, Johnstone had a red warm up lever).
Do you really want a cold engine going to high RPM immediately?
