I have a 1972 50 hp with hydro electric shift. Prior to this motor I had a 1974 50 hp with manual shift. I blew the motor on the 1974 and I am swapping the 1972. The 1972 motor has pulley steering, but my boat is set up with a single line cable steering system. I would like to swap out the clamp/mounting from the 1974 to the 1972. Does anyone know of a simple method for this?

Hi Tinocker.

You should be able to swap the power heads over and keep the manual shift set up that you currently have.
The bottom seals may be slightly different - from memory, one of them had a flat seal and the other had a 3" tube section that covered the drive shaft.
They can easily be swapped out from one motor to the other.

Short of doing that, you are more than likely able to swap over the steering set up quite easily.

Put the two side by side and swap components over from one engine to the other, one at a time.

Good luck with it.
