"I've ordered the manual but I'm desperate to get the impeller changed asap. Do I have to disassemble the lower unit to get to the impeller? This is an awesome outboard, my understanding a Norseman One Year Wonder!"

"Thanks Ken. Great info. I was told that the Norseman was only made in 1970...so much for that info being correct!! We checked the impeller and all looked great, actually it was new, but still no water pumping. Made sure that the hose was put back in place when the lower unit below the extension was replaced. Now it may be a thermostat problem. We'll keep on 'till we locate the problem."

It is only a " marketing " thing to call a motor a NORSEMAN. After all OLE EVINRUDE was from Scandinavia. So it is really the same motor as all the rest of the 40 hp motors from 70 t0 75.

"I have a 74 Norseman 40. It has electric start but it is unusual in that it does not have a recoil start...Before seeing this motor, I had thought that all omc 40's of this vintage had recoil starters even when equipped with electric start. Does anyone have information on this motor and its place in the Evinrude line up?"

Beginning in the late 60's

Beginning in the late 60's they did away with the recoil on the generator equipped electric shift models. There is nothing special about the " NORSEMAN "
