"I just pulled my boat out of winter storage up in northeast. Unfortunately I didn't drain the oil last winter. After starting the engine I noticed that oil is leaking mid way up on the lower unit where two sections of the case bolt together. When I drained the oil, a good deal of water came out first. Any thoughts or help?"
 
"The black yucky oil is unburn

"The black yucky oil is unburned oil in your exhaust. That will go away the more you use your motor. As for the water, that sounds like the seals around your prop shaft. Fill your lower unit back up with oil, then check it in a day or two, you should be able to see if it has started leaking. Then get that fixed right away!!"

"Kevin: Thanks! The stuff was black and yucky. What's strange is that it is coming out where the lower unit bolts together. Is there a gasket in between the two sections? Also, how do you change the seal around the prop shaft? Thanks again."
