"Hello,

I am looking for information on how to repower my current engine (1971 OMC 155HP). I can find a better deal online than most Marine Stores around the Tampa Bay area. So in my efforts to repower, purchasing it from online makes $ sense, but I have questions. Does it matter what brand goes in, Volvo, Merc, etc...? Does anyone on here have experience in this? I appreciate any and all comments. Thanks

"Your bellhousing on your intermediate is Buick specific. So if you are switching to another brand of engine you will need the intermediate housing and of course manifolds, ignition etc etc... in other words buy a whole donor boat if going that route.
My suggestion would be to rebuild what you have, or find an early Buick 225 cid or early Buick 231 cid engine or a reman. long block and do a "swap in." or rebuild it and swap.

If your drive is low profile, there are more options, but I think all 155's had the high profile drive."
