Hello, Tim here. Does anyone know where the blue wire terminates on this 50ESL71S? Got the motor in pieces but maybe its worth fixing up. Thanks

Re: 1971 Johnson 50 shift solenoid

There should be 2 solenoids.-----------Post a picture of------ ALL THE PARTS YOU DO HAVE

Re: 1971 Johnson 50 shift solenoid

The blue wire attaches to a coil ( solenoid ) just like the green wire.-----------------These electric shift units are wonderfully simple and very well engineered. -------Trouble free, if not tampered with.

Ok thanks and here are the photos of what came with regards to shift components.

Blue wire needs to be attached to that other solenoid.------------Likely not possible.-----------Best to find a complete used assembly.------------------You need to look carefully at all the parts and see if it is worth re-assembling.---------------If the powerhead is good and it was " near free " you might have something.----------------I would tear the whole motor ( powerhead ) apart for inspection before spending 2 cents on this motor.

Thanks guys.....really appreciate your imput. The powerhead will be very completely checked over along with the lower unit.

If it doesn't look really sweet, I will stock this one for parts. Do the shift solenoids interchange through the years? My neighbor

has an electronic shift 70 in pieces.....I could talk to him. Regards and thanks again, Tim

It is electric shift -----------not electronic.-------------------Check -------------shop.evinrude.com ---------------for part #'s between years and models
