"I have engine model 40152G motor. It has the typical condenser/points setup. The whole stator rotates, moving the spark wires with it. I don't care for this setup all that much, so is there anything I can upgrade to? Aftermarket would be fine..."

i have been having trbl getting them tho for the last 3 mos.your wires stay w/system...inst new ones.

"William , the points are timed to the magnets on the flywheel ( hence the term magneto ) and the plate rotates to change the timing relative to flywheel and TDC. This was a proven set-up for some 40 years and it was a good set-up."

I inst the modules,on a stator plate that is worn so much,that u cant keep brkr points set,and most are nowdays.There used to be a 'repair' plate/kit avail,but has been NLA,for quite some time."

. My question was in regards to how the magnatune ignition modules are timed/get base timing since they eliminate the points and condenser. The points as we know ride on a small cam on the engines flywheel shaft and the moment they open the spark occurs. So how does the magnatune know when to fire?"

The magnatune knows how to fire the same way as the points.These units are timed to the magnets on the flywheel and that is the SAME as the points.I know how this stuff works too.
