"1971 60hp evinrude, installed

"1971 60hp evinrude, installed new amplifier, coil and rectifier, did something stupid...decided to jump the solenoid with key on...shorted, created sparks, now want turn over with key or jumping solenoid... what did I tear up?"

"First, remove, clean, reinsta

"First, remove, clean, reinstall and tighten all cables pertaining to the starting system. This includes the connections at the battery, starter solenoid, ground cable at the powerhead, and at the electric starter.

Now, find the 20 ampere power fuse in one of the smaller RED wires leading from the starter solenoid and check it to see if it's blown. If so, replace it.

Did this solve the problem?"

"if u r hooking up to the sole

"if u r hooking up to the solenoid,directly,...u either have=..1.a bad solenoid,or a bad starter..period.....a fuse,is no longer,in the equation."

where did you get the new part

where did you get the new part I think i need 1 too and a wire diagrahm for harness

thanks derek r michigan

"replaced solenoid,did not fix

"replaced solenoid, did not fix, have power in the red wire with fuse all the way around to where it goes out toward ignition switch. is there a fuse somewhere between there and the switch? Seems that it is something simple that I just can't figure out...... dang"

Temporarily run the positive b

Temporarily run the positive battery cable directly to the electric starter stud. Did this cause the starter to crank the engine over?

Have you checked the " sho

Have you checked the " should not crank at high throttle switch " it is near the throttle arm on the motor.

"One of the small 3/8" nut

"One of the small 3/8" nuts on the starter solenoid has a WHITE or BLACK wire that leads to a powerhead ground connection.

Instead of that wire leading directly to ground, it should lead first to a safety cutout switch on the powerhead. The purpose of this switch is to eliminate that ground if the throttle is too far advanced.... you wouldn't want the engine to start at near full throttle. Check that switch.

When the throttle is near closed, just slightly advanceed, that switch should ground that wire. When the throttle is advanced somewhat, the ground action of the wire should be non existent.

"o.k.,I did not find either sw

"o.k.,I did not find either switch mentioned in last 2 post. I did pull the plugs, with them in the plug wires with ignition switch on running power direct to starter, they all 3 fire, ignition switch off no fire, so what I can't figure out is maybe bad ignition switch... please refer to my first post as to when I first started having this problem when I did something stupid, after the sparks is when the ignition switch quit operating.."
