1971 20hp Johnson MPG

"Starts on first pull, idles and w/o throttle fine. Have replaced all hoses under cowl looking for problems. Getting approx. 3MPG at w/o. There seems to be a large oil slick around motor when at dock, but no causes. 50:1 oil mix Is this normal mpg? What should I look for?"

"What RPM are you turning? Mileage will vary a lot depending on RPM, boat type, weight, weight distribution prop size and other things.

It is not uncommon to see an oil slick because you are burning oil mixed with gas, the oil and gas mixture will never be completely burned before it is exhausted out of engine."
