1970s Johnson 15 hp accelerates, but doesnt move any faster

Ok I am new here so go easy on me! I have a 1970s Johnson 15 hp outboard that has been running great lately until last night. Sfter fishing it started fne and ran perfect at half throttle. I went to open it up and the motor revved up like normal, but the boat stopped moving forward. I let off the throttle and it moved forward at about half throttle. Itwas a long ride back to the ramp! I hadn't hit anything with the prop either. I pulled the prop off thinking there was a sheer pin and didn't see one. In neutral the prop spins freely. In forward the prop moves about 2 inches and then you can't turn it freely. I am at a loss and appreciate any input from the professionals! That's you guys!
 
Thanks kimcrwbr1! I pulled the prop off and a silver metal thing that slipped over the shaft dropped out of the back side of the prop,could that be the hub? I will do what you sugges. I got to thinking about what I was doing when it happened and I had three guys in the boat, a 12 footer, so it was over loaded. Went down river with the current and all was fine. Then when we went up river against the current it happened, so Iam sure there was max force on the prop pushiing us toads up river. Could this have caused the problem? I will give t a whirl when I get home tonight, thank you.

The hub holds the prop to the shaft and the rubber bushing attaches the prop to the hub. It is pressed on with a special machine either have a new bushing pressed in that prop or get a new prop. If you buy used your likely to have the same problem or in the near future it will fail.

Yup you nailed it! Wound up having to get a new prop. I am back in business Woooooo Hoooooooo! Thanks for the immediate help and being correct! Striper here I come! I will try not to overload the boat from now on. Thanks again.
