Hi All -- I have a Kiekhafter 200 20 hp 1970 or 71, Mercury Outboard. Will you watch this video and see how much water is spitting out when it's on low idle, and then when it speeds up and see if you think that's normal.

Also -- How can I drop the lower unit to take a look at the impeller?

Thank you!

The motor sounds awful , possibly running on one cylinder.----Do a compression test and check for strong spark on both cylinders.----Lower unit comes off with just a few fasteners.-Shift rod is splined.

It should have good compression b/c it runs at full horsepower, correct? The spark plugs are new, but the spark plug wires are old. Could they be bad?

It didn't sound too bad when she was opened up. A little shaky when you had her idled back. Maybe nothing more than a bit of ignition sync.

It didn't look to be pumping at full capacity - a little weak.

All in all, not bad for a 40 something year old motor - cosmetically looks good.

Is it you that has it for sale or are you the new owner????

I'm the one who has it for sale. I'm going to pull it down and take a look at the lower unit. Is there something I can do to adjust the ignition sync?
