"i want to try to change this

"i want to try to change this myself. i see 4 bolts at the bottom of the lower unit i know i need to remove. will this drop the lower unit or is there anything else. i have done this on a couple of smaller hp motors and one you had to remove the power head and the other had a cover with a screw behind it you had to remove. i dont see anything like this on this motor. once its off im sure its the same process as the smaller ones but i want to make sure its just these 4 bolts. please help as there is no repair shop even close to me and i would like to get on the lake soon. any help, diagrams or websites that may have some more info would be greatly appreciated. i already have the parts i just need a little guidence."

"Disconnect the shift wires an

"Disconnect the shift wires and tie 3 or 4 feet of string around them. The wires are on the side of the engine block and down towards the lower cowling. Secure the string good but don't break the wires. You will use the string to feed the wires back up during reassembly. The bolts you are looking at come out as well as the bolt inthe trim tab and I believe there is a bolt under the trim tab as well. The lower unit should slide down after these bolts are removed. Cut the string at the wires once lower unit has cleared the exhaust housing. If you don't have a service manual for this motor, it would be wise to get one. Ebay is a great place to find the actual factory manuals. If not a Clymer or Seloc will do."
