Can anyone tell me how to tell

Can anyone tell me how to tell if the fuel pump is operating properly on a 1970 Johnson 4hp ? I recently rebuild the carb it fires up but then restricts for fuel. I checked the vent on he tank and its working any suggestions before I spend $100.00 on a new pump. Thanks

Check the o-rings in the fuel

Check the o-rings in the fuel hose connector...a complete new fuel line is available in walmart for under $20.00
 
I have 2 6 hp johnson ,need to rebuild both fuel pumps , been watching DIY U tube , I see that fuel pumps have 2 springs in rebuild .
Mine has only 1 the larger , was mine rebuilt without the small one or doesit not need small one ?
 
It needs the small one and the wee plastic piece that goes on it.----Get a factory rebuild kit for the instructions .----Get 1 new diaphragm as well.-----Great motors those 6 HP models.
