To preface, I have a 1970 Evinrude that's been sitting for about 30 years. Some things I've already done in an effort to get it running again are:
Replace the impeller
Replace the amplifier (CD ignition with breaker points)
Cleaned and set the breaker points gap (.010" gap)
Replaced high tension lead from amplifier
Replaced Low tension lead to amplifier
Cleaned carburetors/replaced gaskets
Replaced fuel line and pump
Replaced spark plugs
I'm able to start the outboard but only with no choke and some throttle - and when it does start it roars and sounds like it's running wide open. Part of my efforts was cleaning the carburetor so all the carburetors are clean and the low speed jets are open about 1 turn.
I'm wondering if I just need to open up low speed jets to make the mixture less lean or if the symptoms I'm experiencing are part of a bigger issue like an air leak or something? Any ideas or things to try would be appreciated. Thanks.
