"recently I got a 1970 60hp johnson that had been setting for around 6-10yrs. I changed the impeller, checked the plugs, flushed with carb cleaner, put in a 50 to 1 mix and with a little carb adjusting it runs. WOW! Now for the problem. When th motor is in neutral it will idle good and will rev up all the way, but in gear there is a spot when throttleing the hammer forward that it falls on its face. the spot is before half throttle. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you"

"everyone here will tell you carb cleaner is not an effective way to clean your carbs. take them apart completly and while you are at it put in a new carb kit. also did you check your lower unit oil? if its electric shift it takes a different type of oil. hope you get her going.
I'm currently working on a 1971 50hp of my own.
and i too have carb issues, got a kit on order

"Phil, you can find the lower unit oil you need at most marine and many auto-parts dealers.

If you have an electric shift you want "marine" lower unit gear oil - Type C..

As to your carb kit, try this site - just have a look over on the upper right of this page and follow the links..."
