1970 33hp Johnson driveshaft seal issue

hey guys need some help, I have a 1970 33 hp johnson that someone has changed out the gear box on. The gear box is painted white while the rest of the unit is green. It has a floating bushing for the driveshaft and not the needle bearing a 1970 should have. I ordered driveshaft seal #313284 however the o.d is slightly smaller than the machined seal bore. Can anyone help me figure out the correct seal part number, thanks
 
313284 is also the correct seal for the early ( white ) 28 HP model.----Is there a number on your seal ?----Where did you order this seal.----What is the actual OD of the seal you got ?---Should be 1.128"
 
I bought the seal from marine engine, the new seal measures 1.127 on my calipers and the old seal a little beat up measures 1.130 hard for me to get good read on seal bore because it is a little to deep for my calipers but also seems to be 1.130. The new seal falls in but is really close to a fit. I have no idea what gearcases would even fit the 33 horse. All I can tell you is it is white with a floating bushing for drive shift under waterpump.

Gearcase from a 28 HP 1962 / 1964 model and 33 HP from 65 to 70 will fit.-----Plus early 70's 40 HP.----And motors like Gale / Buccaneer / Viking model fit.------I would make that seal fit somehow if it was my only motor , but it is not.-----Perhaps use some thin material from a beverage can as a shim.-----I would simply dig out a good housing to install for someone else.
 
Locktite is great stuff for that. Use the locktite primer for a reliable cure. Hint: If you don't have loctite, but do have a Harbor Freight store, they sell it at a very reasonable price. You'll find other uses for it later.
