"Hi, I got a 1970 18hp evinrud

"Hi, I got a 1970 18hp evinrude engine today. It started after 2 pulls and ran well without stuttering or stopping. Impellor was spewing out water. When I tried to start it again after 10 mins it almost misfired and started only to shut down right away. After that manual pull start become very stiff and it didnt start. I also left it like that as i dont know what the problem is and didnt want to damage anything. Any help/advice in solving this would be appreciated. My knowledge about outboards in very basic. What fuel/oil mixture are you

What fuel/oil mixture are you using...is the flywheel hard to turn or is it just the recoil starter. You should probably pull both plugs and check for any water that may be present...there should be none! Take a compression test while the plugs are out. There are several possibilities but more information is needed.

Fuel Mix is 2%. The flywheel is hard to turn the rope part seems to be ok. I will check the plugs and also see if it moves with hand after the plugs are out. Will do a compression test also and report back. Many thanks for helping. - SDM
