"I got the Sierra 18-5156 points for the engine, but the contacts aren't parallel. It doesn't have the power it had before. Do you think this could be the problem?"

Did you set the points using the timing marks on the mag-plate and flywheel?? Did you remove inspect the coils for craking / shorts to the mag-plate

"Peter, Sierra points 18-5156 are the equivalent of the factory 580148 points and are the correct points for that engine.

Have the flywheel key aligned with the fiber rubbing portion of the points, then set them so that a .020 gauge will go thru but a .022 will not. Anything other than this will have the effect of putting the engine slightly out of time (power loss)."
